List of Most Pesticide-Contaminated Fruits and Vegetables

Are You Eating A Side Of Chemicals With Your Fruits & Veggies?

If you eat strawberries in your morning smoothie or as a quick snack, make sure they're organic. In an Environmental Working Group (EWG) analysis of 48 fruits and vegetables, strawberries earned the dubious moniker of most contaminated with pesticide residues. They beat out apples (last year's top offender) and were found to be almost universally contaminated — 98 percent of samples contained at least one detectable pesticide residue.

It probably comes as no surprise that conventionally grown produce may be contaminated with pesticides, but there are wide variances in the levels of different crops.

Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) Between 60% to 90% of patients undergoing chemotherapy will develop peripheral neuropathy.

Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord (your brain and spinal cord are called the central nervous system). These distant nerves are called peripheral nerves. They carry sensations (feeling) to the brain and control the movement of our arms and legs. They also control the bladder and bowel.

Some of the chemotherapy and other drugs used to treat cancer can damage peripheral nerves. When this happens it is called chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). This can be a disabling side effect of cancer treatment

FDA Says Risks May Outweigh Benefits for Antibiotics Levaquin, Cipro

FDA Issues Black Box Warning Once Again

On May 12, 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced it is requiring a stronger black box warning for common, popular antibiotics called fluoroquinolones that include Levaquin (levofloxacin), Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Avelox (moxifloxacin) — medications taken by more than 26 million Americans each year.

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is advising that the serious side effects associated with fluoroquinolone antibacterial drugs generally outweigh the benefits for patients with sinusitis, bronchitis, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections who have other treatment options,” the FDA said in a Drug Safety Communication. “For patients with these conditions, fluoroquinolones should be reserved for those who do not have alternative treatment options.”

FDA ISSUES BLACK BOX WARNING ON ALL FLUOROQUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS Fluoroquinolones are antibiotics that are commonly used to treat a variety of illnesses such as respiratory and urinary tract infections. These medicines include ciprofloxacin (Cipro), gemifloxacin (Factive), levofloxacin (Levaquin), moxifloxacin (Avelox), norfloxacin (Noroxin), and ofloxacin (Floxin).  More than 23 million patients received a prescription for one of these drugs in 2011.

The FDA initially issued a warning in 2008 about the dangers associated with taking the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics.  A black box warning was placed on these antibiotics warning against severe tendon damage and rupture.  In 2013, the FDA strengthened its warning- stating that fluoroquinolones, taken by mouth or injection carry a risk for permanent peripheral neuropathy.  The safety announcement states:
