The Dangers of Vegetable Oils

225

One of the biggest lies from the food industry is that vegetable oils are good for you. For decades, they’ve deceived us into believing these oils provide a healthy, heart-friendly alternative to butter and lard.

These vegetable oils, also known as seed oils, interfere with nerve repair and wreak havoc on our health.

What is Vegetable Oil?

Companies create seed oils by extracting the oil from plants like canola, corn, sunflowers, safflowers, grapeseed, and soybeans. These oils rose in popularity because they are cheap to produce and have a long shelf life–up to two years.

Companies worldwide add vegetable oils to almost anything, from baby formula to salad dressings, snacks, fast food, and healthy prepared foods. Even though it is everywhere, the dangers of vegetable oil are evident.

These oils undergo a harsh refining process involving high heat, chemicals, bleach, and the most common chemical used in the refining process is hexane.

Research links hexane with respiratory disorders, damage to the central and peripheral nervous systems, and damage to the reproductive system. Consuming seed oils regularly from eating out or eating foods from a box, carton, can, or jar causes hexane to accumulate in the body.

Globally, two hundred sixty-two million people suffer from asthma. Approximately 2.4% of the world’s population suffers from peripheral neuropathy. Fifty million people suffer from neurodegenerative diseases. Furthermore, infertility continues to rise.

What are the Dangers of Vegetable Oils?

Vegetable oils are primarily made of omega-6 fatty acids. The body requires omega-6, especially for cell membranes, but consuming more omega-6 than omega-3 fatty acids causes problems.

Consuming a one-to-one ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 would be best for good health. However, the seed oils in processed, refined foods and cooking oils cause an imbalance, resulting in a one-to-three ratio, sometimes up to twenty.

As a result of the distorted proportions, inflammation rises in the body. Furthermore, studies link chronic inflammation with

  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • GI disorders like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
  • Asthma
  • COPD

Furthermore, chronic system inflammation damages the pancreas, resulting in insulin resistance, diabetes, different types of cancer and autoimmune diseases.

How do Vegetable Oils Damage the Central Nerves?

Vegetable oils damage the central nervous system. Your brain is 60% fat and relies on good-quality, healthy fats. Consuming seed oils causes brain neuroinflammation, damaging neurons, and impairing neural communication.

This damage contributes to diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Multiple Sclerosis.

Healthy fats like olive oil, coconut oil, and ghee provide necessary nutrients for neurotransmitter production in the brain. The healthy production of neurotransmitters helps to transmit signals or to communicate from one nerve to another.

According to several studies, vegetable oils impair neurotransmitter function, resulting in mood disorders like depression and anxiety.

Studies also link consuming vegetable oils to compromising the blood-brain barrier, the protective shield that prevents harmful substances from entering the brain. Leaky Brain Syndrome allows harmful substances and chemicals to enter the brain, damaging neurons.

Scientists found that regular consumption of seed oils may lead to cognitive decline and increased risk of neurodegenerative diseases.

How do Vegetable Oils Damage the Peripheral Nerves?

Vegetable oils like canola, corn, vegetable, sunflower, rapeseed, soybean, and safflower significantly increase the levels of oxidative stress in the body. High oxidative stress results in more harmful free radicals causing cellulare damage.

Along with elevated inflammation, vegetable oils cause a significant amount of damage to nerve cells and the myelin sheath, the protective coating of peripheral nerves.

The damage causes nerve symptoms like pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, poor coordination, impaired balance, and other symptoms associated with peripheral neuropathy.

Unlike omega-3 fatty acids which contain vitamins and antioxidants, vegetable oils are devoid of essential nutrients needed for nerve health.

How to Remove Vegetable Oils From My Diet?

Now that we’ve discussed the dangers of vegetable oils, there are ways to eliminate them from your diet.

Step 1: Read Labels

While grocery shopping, check the ingredients on any packaged foods. Make sure the food does not include the following oils:

  • Corn
  • Canola
  • Soybean
  • Sunflower
  • Safflower
  • Grapeseed
  • Cottonseed

Ditch the product if you see any of these oils on the label.

Step 2: Purge Your Pantry

We recommend removing any bottles with vegetable, corn, canola, or other oils mentioned. Throw away any vegetable oil or seed oil listed above.

Next, review the food in the pantry and look at the ingredients. Toss out anything containing these oils. Many items in everyday houses contain them.

Step 3: Cook with Healthy Fats

Replace all the dangerous vegetable oils with healthy oils or fats like coconut oil, ghee, or Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Step 4: Make Homemade Dressings

Most salad dressings, even healthy ones, contain one or more vegetable and seed oils. We recommend making simple but delicious salad dressings with healthy oils like olive oil to avoid the dangers of vegetable oils.

There are a few good-quality dressings like Bragg’s or Newman’s Own. Very few good quality dressings exist on the market, so always check the label.

Step 5: Eat Whole Foods

Focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods and cooking your meals. Eating out guarantees consuming vegetable oils. Even buying prepared foods from Whole Foods or other health food stores leads to the consumption of seed oils. Companies make almost everything with sunflower, safflower, or canola oil.

Vegetable and seed oils may hide in plain sight, but there are ways to avoid them. Reclaim your health and remove them from your life. Your heart, brain, nerves, and entire body will thank you.
